The need for support for the Traditional Yaqui Villages in Sonora, Mexico is tremendous. These Indigenous communities are ground zero for the environmental crisis brought on by industrialization in the area.
Since time immemorial, the Yaqui people in this region have had a cultural and spiritual connection to the Yaqui River traditionally know as Hiak Vatwe. Now, Hiak Vatwe has been diverted by dams and the surrounding villages lack potable water services.
